Nordique Hallway Bookshelves Around a Doorway, Kensington

LONDON . KENSINGTON

These bespoke hallway bookshelves in Kensington wrap floor to ceiling around a doorway, turning a passing space into a home library. The white painted shelving frames the opening on both sides and continues across the top. Every piece was designed, made and fitted by Creative Spaces in our own South East London workshop.

It is a simple Nordique idea that adds a huge amount of storage without taking up any floor space.

THE BRIEF

Hallway bookshelves in Kensington: turning a hallway into a library

The brief

Room for a large book collection, using a wall that was otherwise empty, without narrowing the hallway.

Designing hallway bookshelves

The shelving wraps the door on both sides and across the head, with fixed shelves at regular heights so the books line up neatly from floor to ceiling.

A plain white finish keeps the bright, high-ceilinged hall light and lets the books bring the colour.

A subtle built-in detail: the shelving wraps around the doorway, turning the hallway into a place for books without taking up floor space.

Materials and finishes

  • Board: Egger Alpine White

Painted joinery is usually made from MDF. It stays flat and stable, so the paint goes on smooth and the edges stay sharp. The colour can be matched to the rest of the room.

White fronts reflect light around the room. That helps in smaller spaces, and white pairs easily with natural timber.

Why choose bespoke bookshelves?

Bespoke storage turns awkward spaces into some of the most useful in the home. Made-to-measure cupboards fit exactly, so they look tidy and built-in.

Made in our South East London workshop

Every piece was designed, made and finished in our own workshop in South East London. We cut each part on our CNC machine for accuracy, then assemble and finish it by hand.

Before production starts, you see the design as a 3D render. You also speak directly with the people making your joinery.

Once we know more about your project, we will talk the dates through with you and agree them together.

A durable painted finish is easy to clean and can be matched to your walls, while oak details add warmth and stand up well to everyday use.
