Compact Japandi Oak Media Wall, West Wickham
This compact Japandi media wall in West Wickham stands as a slim oak pier between two garden windows. A lit oak niche shows off a few favourite pieces, and a floating oak media unit keeps the floor clear below. Every piece was designed, made and installed by Creative Spaces in our own South East London workshop.
It proves a media wall does not need a big room to make a big difference.

Japandi media wall in West Wickham: a compact oak media wall between two windows
The brief
A neat, compact media wall that fits a narrow wall between two windows without overpowering the room.
Designing a compact media wall
The media wall is built as a freestanding oak pier, sized to sit between the garden windows. A lit oak niche adds a soft glow in the evening and a spot for a vase and books.
A floating oak media unit with a drawer keeps remotes and cables tidy, while leaving the floor beneath open to make the room feel larger.
The client was not sure where the media wall should go. By the time we came to survey, the original plan for the room had changed, so our designers suggested something bolder: a statement column right in the middle of the space.
It now looks as if the room was built around it, and gives the house a modern, almost futuristic feel.
Materials and finishes
- Fronts: Oak
- Finish: Lacquered light oak veneer
- Carcass: Egger Light Casella Oak 18mm, an oak-effect board
- Handles: Handleless, push to open
- Drawer runners: Grass
- Lighting: Lit niche
Oak is hard-wearing and naturally warm. Its light grain keeps a compact piece from feeling heavy.
A floating unit lifts storage off the floor, which makes a smaller room feel more spacious.
Why choose bespoke media walls
A bespoke media wall is built around your room and your TV, not around standard cabinet sizes. There are no filler panels or wasted gaps.
Cables, speakers and boxes are planned in from the start, and the storage is sized for the things you actually keep in the living room.
Made in our South East London workshop
We work from our own workshop in South East London. Each project starts with a measured survey and 3D renders.
Heights, handles and colours are agreed before a single board is cut. And because you talk directly to the makers, questions get answered quickly.

Questions about this Japandi media wall in West Wickham
Do you make bespoke media walls in West Wickham?
Yes. This Japandi media wall in West Wickham was designed, made and installed by our own team, and we regularly travel from our South East London workshop to work across West Wickham and nearby areas. Every piece is made to measure for the room it goes into. We also work throughout London and across the whole of the UK, so wherever you are, we would be happy to talk about your project.
Can a media wall hide cables and AV equipment?
Yes. We plan cable routes, sockets and ventilation at design stage, so the TV, speakers and boxes are connected neatly with no wires on show, and equipment cupboards can breathe.
How long does a bespoke media wall take?
It depends on what stage your home is at. If everything is ready, design to fitting usually takes around 1 to 2 months, and sometimes we can have it made and fitted in the same month you first come to us. Once we know more about your project, we will talk the dates through with you and agree them together.
Can you make a media wall for a small room?
Yes. Every media wall is made to measure, so we can design one for a narrow wall or a small room, using floating units and slim shelves to keep it light.
Can you add lighting to a media wall?
Yes. We can build LED lighting into niches and shelves, planned at design stage so the wiring is hidden.
Client tips: planning a media wall
- Decide your TV size first. The whole wall is designed around it, so pick the TV before we finalise the design.
- Plan the cables early. Tell your electrician where sockets and AV points should go before plastering.
- Mix open and closed storage. Doors hide the clutter, and open shelves give space for books and display.
- Plan ahead. If the room is ready, design to fitting usually takes 1 to 2 months.
Every home is different, so we always start with a chat about your space. Get in touch to talk through your Japandi media wall in West Wickham.
