THE BRIEF

Japandi kitchen in Richmond: walnut and Angora Grey with a limestone splashback

The brief

A calm, natural kitchen with a central island, plenty of tall storage and no visible handles.

Designing a Japandi kitchen in Richmond

The island is made in walnut veneer with framed fronts, with stools along one side. Behind it, a tall bank of handleless Angora Grey cabinets houses the built-in oven and storage.

An open shelf niche breaks up the run of cabinets, and a limestone splashback adds natural texture. The walnut drawers have dovetail joints and an integrated pull rail instead of handles.

This was one of our first Japandi kitchens, and we wanted it to be a statement piece. We love the way the Japandi style brings a calm, almost zen feel to the whole house.

If you want a kitchen that helps you switch off at the end of the day, it is a style well worth considering.

Materials and finishes

  • Fronts: Walnut veneer island; Angora Grey handleless wall and tall units
  • Colour: Egger PerfectSense Angora Grey
  • Interiors: Egger walnut-effect board
  • Worktops: Durasein
  • Splashback: Limestone
  • Handles: Integrated pull rail
  • Drawer runners: Blum

Walnut veneer has a deep, rich grain that brings warmth to a kitchen and sits beautifully against soft grey units.

Limestone gives the splashback a soft, natural texture that suits the Japandi style.

Why choose bespoke kitchens

A bespoke kitchen is built around your room, not around standard cabinet sizes. There are no filler panels or wasted gaps.

Storage is planned for the things you use every day. And the colour, handles and worktops are chosen together, so the whole room feels considered.

Made in our South East London workshop

We work from our own workshop in South East London. Each project starts with a measured survey and 3D renders.

Heights, handles and colours are agreed before a single board is cut. And because you talk directly to the makers, questions get answered quickly.
