Japandi Oak Kitchen with Durasein Worktop, Chelsea
This bespoke Japandi kitchen in Chelsea is an L-shaped run of framed oak cabinetry with a Durasein solid surface worktop. Tall oak units by the sash window house the fridge freezer and oven, with an open appliance cupboard alongside. Every piece was designed, made and installed by Creative Spaces in our own South East London workshop.
Natural oak veneer and a smooth Durasein solid surface worktop give the kitchen a calm, timeless feel.

The brief
A warm, natural kitchen with plenty of tall storage, a Durasein solid surface worktop and space for everyday appliances.
Designing an oak kitchen with a Durasein worktop
Framed oak base units run along the walls in an L shape, with a tall bank of oak cabinets for the fridge freezer and oven by the sash window.
An open appliance cupboard keeps everyday appliances close at hand. The Durasein solid surface worktop carries an undermount sink with a steel tap, and white wall units sit above the hob wall.

Oak is hard-wearing and naturally warm. It ages well and balances white and solid surface finishes.
Durasein solid surface gives the worktop a smooth, seamless finish that is non-porous and easy to keep clean.
Inside, the cabinets are made from Egger oak-effect board. The board you choose for the inside of a kitchen can change the price a lot, without changing the look from the outside or the quality of the build. It is one of the ways we can help a kitchen fit your budget.

Yes. Durasein is a solid surface material that is non-porous, hard-wearing and easy to clean. Joins are almost invisible, and light marks can usually be buffed out.
How long does a bespoke kitchen take from design to fitting?
It depends on what stage your home is at. If everything is ready, design to fitting usually takes around 1 to 2 months, and sometimes we can have it made and fitted in the same month you first come to us. Once we know more about your project, we will talk the dates through with you and agree them together.
Can you fit a kitchen around a sash window?
Yes. Every kitchen is measured on site, so we can plan tall units, worktops and wall cupboards around windows of any shape.
Can you work around our existing floor and appliances?
Yes. Every kitchen is measured on site and drawn to fit the room, so we can plan around existing flooring, chimney breasts, windows and the appliances you want to keep.
Client tips: planning a Japandi kitchen
- Measure how you cook. Think about where you prep, cook and wash up, and plan the layout around that.
- Plan storage first. List your appliances, pans and food storage before choosing colours. It makes the design much easier.
- Choose colours in daylight. Look at samples at different times of day, in the room the kitchen will go in.
- Plan ahead. If the room is ready, design to fitting usually takes 1 to 2 months.
