Fitted wardrobes in Chislehurst: shaker outside, walnut inside
The brief
A full wall of storage that suits a traditional bedroom, with enough hanging, shelving and drawer space for two people.
Designing fitted wardrobes
The doors are arranged in pairs, each opening to its own mix of hanging rails, open shelves and drawer stacks. A separate tall unit fits neatly beside the bedroom door so no space is wasted.
LED strips light the sides of each section, the walnut-finish interiors contrast with the painted fronts, and long brass bar handles tie the run together.
Materials and finishes
- Fronts: Shaker, painted MDF
- Colour: Farrow & Ball No. 274 Ammonite
- Interiors: Egger Natural Carini Walnut H3710 ST12
- Handles: Long brass bar handles
- Drawer runners: Riex
- Hinges: Blum
- Flooring: Carpet
Shaker doors have a simple frame and a recessed panel. The style has been popular for over a century. It works in both period and modern homes.
Painted joinery is usually made from MDF. It stays flat and stable, so the paint goes on smooth and the edges stay sharp. The colour can be matched to the rest of the room.
Walnut is a rich, dark hardwood with a beautiful grain. It adds warmth and a sense of quality, especially next to painted or pale surfaces.
Why choose bespoke fitted wardrobes?
Made-to-measure wardrobes use the full height and width of the wall. You get far more storage than with freestanding furniture. The inside is planned around your clothes, with the right mix of hanging, shelves and drawers.
Made in our South East London workshop
Nothing in this project came off the shelf. It was drawn as a 3D design and cut on the CNC machine in our South East London workshop.
Our own team then assembled and finished it. That control is what lets us build accurately around real walls, ceilings and floors.

Questions about this fitted wardrobe in Chislehurst
Do you make bespoke fitted wardrobes in Chislehurst?
Yes. This project was designed, made and fitted for a home in Chislehurst, and we regularly travel from our South East London workshop to work across Chislehurst and nearby areas such as Bickley, Bromley, Petts Wood and Sidcup. Every piece is made to measure for the room it goes into. We also work throughout London and across the whole of the UK, so wherever you are, we would be happy to talk about your project.
How long do fitted wardrobes take to make and install?
It depends on what stage your home is at. If everything is ready, design to fitting usually takes around 1 to 2 months, and sometimes we can have it made and fitted in the same month you first come to us. Once we know more about your project, we will talk the dates through with you and agree them together.
Can fitted wardrobes be built around sloping ceilings and alcoves?
Yes. Because each wardrobe is made to measure, we can follow sloping ceilings, fill alcoves and work around windows, radiators and doors so that no space is wasted.
What is the best material for wardrobe interiors?
Wardrobe interiors need to be stable and hard-wearing. Melamine-faced board (such as Egger MFC) is a popular, easy-clean choice, while a timber or timber-effect finish like walnut or oak adds warmth when the doors are open.
Can you add lighting inside wardrobes?
Yes. LED strips can be built into the sides or shelves and set to switch on when the doors open, which makes it much easier to find clothes and gives the interior a high-end feel.
Client tips: planning fitted wardrobes in Chislehurst

- Use the full height. Cupboards up to the ceiling give extra space for cases and spare bedding.
- Add lighting. LED lights inside make it much easier to find clothes.
- Plan early. If the room is ready, design to fitting usually takes 1 to 2 months.
