Children's wardrobe in Kensington: simple storage for a child's room
The brief
Plenty of storage for clothes, books and toys in a child’s bedroom, with a clean look that will still suit the room as they grow up.
Designing a children’s wardrobe
Tall white doors hide hanging space and shelves, with a row of drawers below for everyday clothes. A slim open oak bookcase at one end keeps favourite books within reach.
Small leather pulls replace hard handles, and the warm oak adds a natural touch against the white fronts.
Made for a developer entirely from Egger board, so there are fewer photos than usual. See more of our work for developers.
Materials and finishes
- Fronts: Slab
- Board: Egger, white
- Handles: Leather pulls
Oak is hard-wearing and naturally warm. It ages well and balances painted or white surfaces.
Leather pulls are soft to the touch and quiet to use. They are a good choice for a child’s room or a calm bedroom.
White fronts reflect light around the room. That helps in smaller spaces, and white pairs easily with natural timber.
Why choose bespoke fitted wardrobes?
Made-to-measure wardrobes use the full height and width of the wall. You get far more storage than with freestanding furniture. The inside is planned around your clothes, with the right mix of hanging, shelves and drawers.
Made in our South East London workshop
Every piece was designed, made and finished in our own workshop in South East London. We cut each part on our CNC machine for accuracy, then assemble and finish it by hand.
Before production starts, you see the design as a 3D render. You also speak directly with the people making your joinery.

Questions about this fitted wardrobe in Kensington
Do you make bespoke fitted wardrobes in Kensington?
Yes. This project was designed, made and fitted for a home in Kensington, and we regularly travel from our South East London workshop to work across Kensington and nearby areas such as Chelsea, Notting Hill and Holland Park. Every piece is made to measure for the room it goes into. We also work throughout London and across the whole of the UK, so wherever you are, we would be happy to talk about your project.
How long do fitted wardrobes take to make and install?
It depends on what stage your home is at. If everything is ready, design to fitting usually takes around 1 to 2 months, and sometimes we can have it made and fitted in the same month you first come to us. Once we know more about your project, we will talk the dates through with you and agree them together.
Can fitted wardrobes be built around sloping ceilings and alcoves?
Yes. Because each wardrobe is made to measure, we can follow sloping ceilings, fill alcoves and work around windows, radiators and doors so that no space is wasted.
What is the best material for wardrobe interiors?
Wardrobe interiors need to be stable and hard-wearing. Melamine-faced board (such as Egger MFC) is a popular, easy-clean choice, while a timber or timber-effect finish like walnut or oak adds warmth when the doors are open.
Can you add lighting inside wardrobes?
Yes. LED strips can be built into the sides or shelves and set to switch on when the doors open, which makes it much easier to find clothes and gives the interior a high-end feel.
Client tips: planning a children's wardrobe in Kensington
- Count your hanging space. Measure how much long and short hanging you really need before the design starts.
- Use the full height. Cupboards up to the ceiling give extra space for cases and spare bedding.
- Add lighting. LED lights inside make it much easier to find clothes.
- Plan early. If the room is ready, design to fitting usually takes 1 to 2 months.
